factory side pipes

factory side pipes
How long would a set of factory orignal 69 side pipe last? Could they look good on the outside, and be rotten on the inside? A local guy has a set for sale but they are used. They are not on the car so i cant hear what they sound like. thanks

If he has everything, the mounting brackets, the insulators the front and rear extensions and the chrome is in good shape with no pits, that's the expensive part. The mufflers are not as expensive (less than $600) and readily available in pretty much your choice of sounds.

Hi t68,
I'm still using the pipes I bought in 71, 46k miles. They look solid on the outside, and have gotten VERY loud.
The pipe portion is pitted but the muffler is still smooth.
I guess it really depends on how the car was used and stored as to what condition your pipes might be in.
