Default Window Regulator

Got my door lock removal problem solved because of help from here. Now I'm trying to get my window out so I can work on the regulator, rollers, sliders etc. This is on my 68.

Do the two red circled bolts undo with a wrench or do I have to drill them out? I can't get them to turn with a wrench. Scared of stripping them and want to be sure before I try even harder.

Also in the blue rectangle on my window are 3 "plugs" (AIM calls them 'fastener and cap'). I got the caps off but can't get them out of the glass as they are too tight. I can't twist/angle the glass to clear them as there isn't enuf room in the door channel. If I push on them I'm worried that I may brake the glass. How do I get them out?

The roller in the green circle I may have to use my sawzall on it. Can't turn the nut on this one either.

At least I'm busy and keeping out of trouble.

Hi S,
I believe ALL the rollers, slides, and glides are fastened with a nut on a stud or bolt. I don't believe anything needs to be drilled out.
Do you have a good supply of WD-40?
Regards,
Alan

Shmoky,
I don't know if you have a Chassis Service Manual, if you do page 1B-19 has a decent picture.

I've got '68 glass with most of the hardware installed if you need me to take some pictures let me know.

Rick that looks like the same picture out of the AIM but I will check the chassis manual. Screw #11 looks like what I need to get out with a nut on the back. Maybe the nut doesn't move just the screw. But my screws are in pretty bad shape so I'm not sure how well it will go tomorrow. Wish me luck.

I don't have channel #12 on my old glass so I can't check that screw (#11) for you.
I do wish ya luck.

-the red ones should come undone. your just unlucky that they have seized...i think you will just have to find a nice tight ring spanner and swing off it.
-the green one stays in the glass till you get the complete glass out. you just need to remove the stopper at the top of the slide rail and this will slide out the top with your glass.
- the ones in the blue i do not have these on my 81 or cant remember them anyway. i cant really visualize what they are . i have had my glass out many times but normally drink beer while this is going on so maybe they are there.
- you did say 68 and im not clued up on them so i could be way off track

I've had a lot better result using PB Blaster or Aero Kroil to soak and loosen rusted or stuck fasteners, as opposed to WD-40.

Hope this helps.

I am actually in the middle of this on my 75.

the 2 in red are nuts and should unscrew,
my inner door panel had 2 access holes to get to them with a socket.

on mine, the front roller(circled in green) stayed on and after removing the other 2 nuts(in red), it came out with the window.

I'm not sure about the plugs.

On my 73 with power windows, as yours has, I just cleaned and lubed the window tracks and rollers with the window in place. Unless there is some other problem that requires the removal of the window glass I don't like touching things that are OK.
My windows were very very slow moving up and down. When I finished I was amazed at how fast they operated. Lube the motor output gear ( that you can see, not internal parts) as well. I just used 20w50 in an oil can with a long flexible spout. Been years now, still perfect operation.

Thnx for all the help. I got everything out Monday. The door is just a shell now. The two red ones had to have the screw heads drilled out and then pushed thru the window to get them out. After that it was easy to get everything out.

The regulator looks okay at the first glance. Rollers etc. will be replaced with a kit from Willcox. I'm out of town right now and will take a closer look when I get back home. Will have questions later on the motor.

Thanx for all the help in getting this out. As said elsewhere... This Site Rocks.
