Default removing AC from my 76 C3 - help

Pulling what's left of my air conditioning to include the AC wiring harness in my 76 C3. I will replace it with a non AC wiring harness and install an AC delete plate on the firewall. Is there anything I need to watch out for?

Thanks,

Mike

My 77 has headers on it and I had to remove the right header to get the AC accumulator vessel out. The evaporator came out easily after that - one bolt, at the bottom, inside the car however. If you have stock manifolds you shoud be OK. The AC Delete cover fits nicely.

AC delete plate? Who makes this?
I am doing the same thing and have a huge hole left over.

I was going to rivet a piece of steel but is the delete plate cosmetically better? Any pics?

Default Removal of AC Wiring for a 76 C3 and installation of AC Delete cover

Spoke with M & H Electric Fabracators and the wiring harness for a non AC car verses an AC car has connectors completely different that connect to the control panel in the console. The only way to remedy this is to cut back the unused AC wiring and tape it off on the firewall leaving the esential blower motor ground and power wire.

To add insult to injury the 76 AC contol is the only part avalible which I just bought. The non AC control is not availble. I looked at my neighbors 70 C3 non air car and the nose is currently off for full restoration. While doing a stare and compare I noticed the passenger side on his 70 has a vent cut out and my 76 does not. In order to add one, I would have to pull the fender and I'm not going there. The drivers side vent opening is the same on both cars. I figured with the T tops off, the windows down and the fan motor pulling in fresh air, the passenger should not roast in the summer..

I also noticed the original heater core in my 76 has the tubes facing downward and the new AC delete cover has little cut-outs at the bottom that appear to be correct and would fit the original configuration without requring a new heater core to fit the new cover. I'll call over to the the folks at AC Delete and make sure the original heater core will work with the new cover. I will advise.

Default Does anyone know if ACdelete.com is out of business?

After calling multiple times and sending e-mails, I received no response from this company. I won't do business like this. Does anyone else sell ACdelete covers? Does anyone have good used orginial non AC covers availble?

Mike

Just got last week my AC delete plate for my 1980. It took 5 weeks to get my kit. Very good product. High quality product.

5 weeks? Sounds a bit slow on the shipping there. That, combined with the lack of response to emails and calls, makes that supplier look a bit lackluster. Too bad there is only 1 company out there making those.

I totally agree with this.. I wonder if the owner of ACdelete.com sells this stuff part time.

Could very well be, but it still puts people off when they fail to get responses to their inquiries. $160 isn't a whole lot of money, but it's still worthy of being taken seriously by the vendor. The better the customer service, the more likely you are to tell others about them. In this case...1 vendor....no alternate choices....leaves one with no other choice but to either make their own, or just wait (read that as HOPE) for the part to arrive. I guarantee you that if there were more than one vendor that sold these, he would look into either hiring someone else to help him, or simply change the way he does business. Heck, I get great customer service from guys selling a $2.00 part on eBay! Just my 2 cents.

Default How did you do it?

Im trying to remove my ac from my 79 vette. Is there anything I should worry about? Or is it as simple as just removing everything that deals with the ac. I really just want to take out the compressor. Any suggestions???

Thanks

Go ahead and remove it. Label the parts, store them away incase you change your mind/sell the car. Pay attention to your wiring, leaving no hot circuits that could ground (find the fuse and remove it).

Default AC Delete C3

The way I'm removing my AC is in the engine bay. I ordered my AC Delete cover and pulled all existing AC components off the firewall. The only question I had was with the fan blower switch and the resistor could be installed underneath the new delete cover thanks to a fellow board member's picture. I would send you the picture but I guess I can't at this point (I'm a relatively new member here). If you would like more information send me a pm and I'll forward the picture to your e-mail.

I originally thought I could pull all factory AC parts out of the car but its entirely too intrusive with pulling the fenders off and adding vents and it didn't make much sense. I did a comparison with my next door neighbors 70 car w/o AC and the difference is considerable. He's doing a frame off and the fenders are removed and I was able to get a good look. You can still use the fan and fresh air controls with your current configuration when the engine bay parts are removed..
