Default Cheap parts

I'm converting my auto trans to 5 speed, bought pedal assembly kit and when installing ballstud to engine for Z bar, It snapped when I tighten it, Its made of pot metal. Should I have only finger tighten it? Is OEM made out of real steel?

I've never had one break off like that before. You should be able to tighten it down without that happening. I'd get a steel one.
If you haven't done it already, mock up the bellcrank before you weld the other ball mount to the frame. Its no fun if you get it wrong

Make a call to the supplier who sold it to you. That stud should not have broken off...and I wouldn't think it should be made of pot-metal. [Does it say "Made in China" on it? ]

We actually source these pedal/linkage kits from a local company.

Please contact Rich at 888-609-0070 ext. 201 and advise him of the situation. Or you can try email: customerservice@keislerauto.com

I have never seen that happen before. We have sold over a hundred of the pedal/linkage kits like the one you got and this is the only time I have heard of this.

I am sending pedal assembly back for refund, which was initially refused by Richard in sales, but they are still charging me 15% for restocking fee, kinda pissed at that since the part there selling (regardless where they get it from) is defective.

Yep. Pretty shoddy of them, I'd say.... But, these days, it's nice to see someone willing to take back their junk. By the way, by a "re-stocking" fee...does that mean they are going to glue it back together and sell it to someone else?? {...not sure why they need a re-stocking fee to throw it in the trash pile.... }

I'm hip!!! A "restocking fee" means they need a little money from you to make up for the hassle of having to repackage the thing you sent back because you ordered the wrong part, or for some reason you decided you didn't need it after all, or whatever. Charging a restocking fee for returning a defective part is just plain crazy.....either you are getting hosed, or we are not getting the full story here......

Right part, C3 pedal assembly for my 74 C3. Ball stud snapped when tightening, made of pourous metal. Sales person at Keisler initially refused refund untill I spoke with Jeff. I'm getting hosed on the restocking fee

Go to classic Chevy 5 speed, they make the same Auto to manual swap kit, and they also treated me very well. Keisler should not be charging restocking fees when they send bogus parts. Tell them you going to spend your hard earned money at the competition. Maybe they will think twice about charging those fees when not warranted.
