1978 Rear gear Identification question
Quick question for the rear-end (car not female) pros.
I have the rear end codes for which gear is in the diff. Where on the diff is the code? Can it be seen from under the car anywhere?
What gears usually go with what car?
Always a 3.73 on a L82 auto?
Always "x.xx" on L48 4 spd?
Mine is a L82 Auto. Could more than one gear set come with the engine/trans set I have?
Has the gymkahana suspension if that makes any difference.

Can't say always.
I have a close ratio trans and the book says 3.70 rearend. Another forum member has a close ratio and he said when he ordered his car, also a close ratio 4spd, he chose a different rearend.
Hope the pic in this thread will help. The restoration packet calls for a 3.55 rearend for a L82 auto.
L48= 3.08 or 3.55 (california)
