I have a 79 auto, looking at a new Super T10 on the Richmond website. Richmond states 375lbs torque rating for the trans. This 4 speed would be behind a 383 425hp mid 400 in torque. Should I just build my turbo 350 trans instead? I had a nice 78 T/A w/ 400ci with maybe 375hp and a boat load of torque. I was on it all the time! .No problems.
Is it true that a 79 w/ auto trans frame is not ready for the zbar?
None of the automatic cars had the bracket on the frame for the Z bar linkage. It can be welded on or someone now makes a bolt on or you can use a hydraulic clutch system. I have used all but the bolt on one. Welding is pretty easy and the hydraulic units are pretty nice but a little on the pricey side.
The nice thing with an automatic car is the removeable cross member. The 4 speed cars had a welded in cross member. The removeable one makes trans removal a breeze. I converted my 4 speed to a removeable member.

The cross member changed some time before '80. My '80 has a BW Super T-10 and has the removeable cross member too.
Does anyone know if a Super T10 will survive behind a 383 425hp and mid 400 in torque?
I have one of those trans in my car with a 383 ,144 supercharged, built, dont know hp but i think its more then you,so i think one of those richmond t10 will do fine behind your engine.

Richmond underrates them ... it'll probably be fine. But if you want more ... look up tex racing near charlotte ... 9310 gear mat'l ... complete trans.
Anyone know of any websites or posts that have instructions or photos of a Super T10 swap on a 79 Vette? I have done this before on a 78 T/A, I just want to be extra careful.
