I'm about to get rid of the stock shifter (sloppy) and replace it with the hurst. I noticed there is a spacer and stiffner in the package, but not on the instruction sheet, do I need these?
Both are listed on my circa '69 instruction sheet. I installed both the spacer and the stiffener on my M21 mouse motor in the early '70's, cause it has a console. It has been shifting quite well all these years. And I just checked, they're both still in place!

The instruction sheet that came with mine (about 6 years ago) shows the spacer. Don't recall if I used it or not. You'll know when you get the shifter mounted up weather you need it or not. If the shift handle isn't centered in the console, you may need the spacer.
anyone know what the dimensions are on that spacer? i bought a used shifter and it didnt come with one, so i need to make one. ive been running with out a shift plate for about 3 years now and im kinda getting sick of it.
As I recall, The spacer is about the same thickness as the Shifter Handle. You could trace the bottom of the stick onto another piece of metal, then cut it out.
