i have being reading and still can make a positive decision on wich headers to order i have a 69 vette with d port aluminum heads from edelbrock straight plugs does it matter if i bye headers that are not D port could somebody help me on choosing the correct headers. so far this is what i found
flowtech 31106flt and hookers 66309
I believe neither of those are D-port headers. The hookers have a slightly larger opening so they may not restrict flow. Heddman makes a D-port header in both ther block hugger and standard version. I just recently installed the block huggers on my 81 with no interference issues at all. I went with the block huggers only because I am running sidepipes and the standard longtube headers force the sidepipes to far down the car.
If the motor is a high performance block, you want a s little restriction as possible especially from the heads to the exhaust ports
I have the Flowtek headers on my Performer RPM heads. They wouk fine with the D ports. There even may be an advantage to having the mismatch of the flat floor in the port and the round tube on the primary. It will aid as a bit of a reversionary dam to help keep the exhaust gasses from being pulled back into the cylinders and contaminating the intake charge when the intake valve is beginning to open before the exhaust valve is completely closed. (overlap)

thanks for the response i have the performer heads to so ill go ahead and order the flowtech headers
From: Las Vegas - Just stop perpetuating myths please.
D-port headers are nonsense.

Yes the floor of the exh port is a low flow area that D-port heads where designed to prevent reversion of the exh gas (at low rpm). This is a good example of how much bad information is out in the performance parts business. Money hungry companies selling mail order parts designed only to make $$$ not hp - not even researched why D-port heads are made let alone dyno testing to prove if thier D-port headers work. Too much eyeball engineering and no facts to back it up.
