YIKES,
Man were these things ever rotted out. Got the passenger side down and out of the body and the replacement cage up and tack welded in place. I still have the other side to take out and replace. :cry I know one thing, I'll never do this job again. I wish I had seen how bad they were the first time I took the body off but someone had about 4" of undercoating smeared on the cage rails and they looked pretty solid, WRONG!!!! If you ever take yor body off the frame make sure you look at these cage rails. Learn from my mistake.
When I had the body off my 81' I looked them over and they looked pretty good. Of course, that car has spent about 99% of it's life in the fine facilities of Bubba and Cletus Auto Body, so it didn't really have a chance to rust. I have the body off of the 68' but havent' taken the time to look them over.
I am going thru that rusty rail problem too. The shop thats going to do it says they can just weld new metal where there is none. Do you have any pics of the process of replacing your rails and where did you get the replacment rails and how much were they? Thanks Tom
