Default gauges and air dam question

Recently purchased 1982, Voltmeter needle on the far right red mark, temp gauge shows 100 degrees even though the heater blowing very hot air. Is this usually a gauge problem, circuit board or transmitting problem. Also there is a rubber dam [moderately beaten] attached to the two piece air dam extension. I cannot find any catalog that shows this rubber dam. Was this an after market and not part of the original.

Lets start with your gauge problem.

You didn't say if the gauges were moving when the key was turned on so just a little more info on this please. Your question about the cluster is yes, there is a printed circuit on the back of the gauge cluster and I would suspect that one of the fingers where the connector pin plugs in to it is possibly touching another one.

Could be a ground issue too! The best way to figure this out would be to pull the customer and see what condition the printed circuit board is in. Here is a schematic of the printed circuit.

Now to your spoiler question. 1978-1979 cars without the spoiler package and with heavy duty cooling used a two section rubber spoiler that was pop riveted to the front abs spoiler. It was very odd looking and for some people it will appear as if it was added to the ABS plastic spoiler when in fact it was actually installed at the factory this way. But all 1980-1982 cars had a two section plastic spoiler that mounted to the bottom outer edge of the bumper cover and to the center air deflector and that was it. These spoilers were better known as parking curb finders and will be tattered on a driven car. But to my knowledge there never was anything else attached to them.

If you need the lower spoilers we have them in the forum special price section of our site at this link. http://willcoxcorvette.com/advanced_...ywords=spoiler

Post again, I'll be around...

Thanks for the information. I put the car "to bed" [MN winters]for the winter and will be replacing the radiator and water pump next spring and will check on the circuit board.
