can be done as either blow-through or draw-through.
With blow through you can run an intercooler which is important. Places sell carburator pressure boxes and fuel pressure regulators that respond to boost pressure appropriately.
The 'problem' is that the technology is rather obsolete compared to what can be done with FI.
some great blow thru systems out there, change the floats upgraded needle and seat, better seals or drill the butterfly shaft bores and place tubes in there attach hoses from this to manifold to prevent leaks. Or just box the hole carb. place a large lid over the top with fast removal for jetting. Draw thru systems work, but require a boost reference power valve as it can see vacuum at WOT and close the valve. Adding a pressure line to the chamber will keep it open. Draw thru systems can actually freeze up aswell from huge airspeed drawing thru. You can add an ally spacer in there with hot water flowing thru from cooling system to prevent this. Massive hp is produced using single plane manifolds and boosted systems with electric fuel pump and rising rate regulator. In this case run 6psi base pressure and an extra 1 psi fuel pressure per 1 psi boost pressure.

I've got a spare setup (less exhaust manifold) out in the garage. The turbo was rebuilt and has zero miles since. I got it for a spare setup for my '51 Chevy pickup street rod. For reasons I don't understand, the exhaust manifold is difficult to find, and I ended up welding up my own manifold for the truck.
PM me if you want any info on these setups.
On a related note, about twenty years ago I also put one of these on my '84 (with a TBI setup). This is an early pic when I was calibrating the ECM software and had some additional instrumentation hooked up. The things runs great, and has lots of track miles on it.
