Default Trailing Arm Questions

Can someone comment on the status of the trailing arm replacement that I am doing? Looking at the position of the bushings in trailing arm something doesnt seem right. I have the spring and shock attached, trailing arm bolt is also tight.

If the trailing arm bolt is tight and that's the maximum number of shims that can be installed, the bushing ***'y is not installed properly.

How does the bushing need to be installed, it was pressed in?

I agree the bushing is not installed correctly. The inner and outer are compressed together and the inner sleeve is peened to hold them together. I'll see if I can find one of GTR1999s threads showing one properly installed.

I couldn't find one of Garys old threads showing the bushing so I took a pic of a NOS arm bushing , backlit with a flashlight.
If you look close you can see how tight the 2 sides are compressed. Did yours have the inner sleeve installed ?

My first thought. Put the suspension in and lower it to the ground. My guess is the arm is in an unsupported position and unnaturally torqued. If the bushing was cocked, you would have seen it and I assumed not installed it.

I will put the half shaft in and see if the bushing looks any better.

Make sure the arm is level and not hanging. The arm would never be like that unless the car left the ground and you went airborne. Put a jack under it and get the arm level.

Put a 5/8" socket between the arm and the frame pocket. That should get you close to ride height and the arm won't hang.
