74 coupe base 350. Been having issurs with the q-jet and even had it rebuilt by a guy who came pretty well recommended. The car isn't really powerful anyway so I was wondering if there was a particular replacement anyone would recommend?
Have you checked out ignition system or possible vacuum/intake leaks. Those carbs are pretty simple either they work or not at all. Had someone rejetted it?
This started all of the sudden. I can throttle it when it's not running and just get little or no fuel into the carb. I know I have good fuel pressure. Thinking of going to an Edelbrock carb. because I have a brand new Edelbrock intake in my shop. Any thoughts on a new Edelbrock Victor Jr. intake and new carb. Don't even know if ot will fit

Do you mean it will rev in park but wont rev when you drive it?
Or do you mean if you look down the carb with the engine off it doesn't seem to squirt any fuel in?
Can't help on the manifold but I have a Carter the same as the Edelbrock and I like it
If you look down into the carb with motor NOT running you see practically no fuel. Occasionally there is a solid jet of fuel. I think perhaps the float is stuck but not sure.
Thats what I was thinking. I have a new intake but I need to find out my head angle--this intake is intended for a 23 degree head and I don't know what mine is. Gotta do some research I guess.
It doesn't take much. An ounce or two just to make sure there is fuel in the bowl. Have a rag handy in case it runs over. If it does run over, that means your bowl was full to begin with.
After you get the fuel in, work the throttle through one full stroke while looking down the venturi. If it doesn't squirt two solid streams, one into each hole, you've got an accelerator pump problem. It needs to squirt the two streams for the entire stroke of the throttle.
If it does squirt, needle could be stuck in the seat or some other related delivery problem.
All stock small blocks have 23 degree heads. However, you will be very disappointed if you put a Victor JR on a stock base engine. The Victor JR is designed for a high RPM performance motor and will kill your low end torque. If you need a new square bore manifold, get a Performer RPM. Also, both the Victor and Performer RPM are taller than the stock manifold so the stock air cleaner will not fit and you will need to get a low profile drop base aircleaner.
I have the Eldebrock 600 on my 350 and it runs it well. But I seem to get very poor gas mileage with it. About 10-14mpg. Eldebrock says that I shoulf get 18+ mpg. I found that on the right side needle adj. side I can turn all of the way in and it does not affect the rpms. I think that is some sort of problem for me. If anyone has a remedy for me on that issue, I would appreciate it. Good luck with what evecarb you choose..
