I contacted a gentleman who suggests that these will work ona C3 to upgrade to H4 halogen lamps. I like these as they are fairly simple looking, but offer the enhanced brightness

Wrong size, and most likely made with a plastic lens and housing. Hard to tell, and there is no clear description given to what it's made of. I'd most likely pass, even if they were the right size. Just my 2 cents worth.
They have a glass lens bonded or glued to a heavy plastic back, have meatl retainer for bulbs. Only thing i don't like is there is a small bulb inside that your suppose to hook up to your running lights,I will leave it out or put a clear bulb in it.
I've had the Hella H4s on my '71 for over 10 years. I highly recommend them. Great light output and quality. They still look like new. I'm also still on my original bulbs.
I bought a set of the h5001 size, but have not installed them yet. Same seller different size.Gonna buy a cheap set of hids to put in them.
Probably not a great idea to put HID bulbs in a housing that is not designed for them. You may get a poor light pattern and the glare may be very annoying or dangerous to oncoming traffic. A halogen bulb in that housing should give you all the light that you will need.
I have had Hella lead crystal lens 5 3/4 low and high beam halogens with H4 and H1 bulbs for 25 years on my 78 and they are terrific. I personally would stay away from any cheap alternatives or sealed beam "aircraft " landing lights for the high beams. Anything will work and are probably better than the OEM sealed beams but if you are going to change I would go for the best you can get. The most important aspects of a headlight light are the reflector quality and the glass dispersion characteristics with the bulb wattage last.
I feel that the headlight housing is more important that the wattage of the bulb. H5006 5-3/4" Round E-code from Hella is a good choice.
Placing an HID bulb in halogen housing might not be a good idea. The bulbs have different lengths of glass. The focal point of the light in the reflector could provide a diminished light output or create glare for the on coming driver.
Voltage is very important for light output. Having a 12.6 or greater volts will make a big difference. Check the actual voltage at the bulb. If it is lower than 12.6, you might consider a headlight relay kit. This kit provides direct battery voltage to the headlight. Summit Racing sold these. Only $25. This works.

NO! won't work, they are 7" round you need 5.75" round headlamps unless you own a 1957 or earlier Vette.
I would be a little wary of all the Chinese headlamp conversions, I would look for Cibie, SEV Marchal, Hella or even Lucas. There are many cars with 5.75" haedlamp systems BMW even made HID type lamps for 5.75" cars, they appear on Ebay once in a while.
I would expect lamp life in any of these Chinese headlamps to be under 100 hours based on my expirences with them in the past. Housing optics are probably SAD compared to the French offerings. Light patterns will probably be disfused and unfocused.
Sylvania Silver Star lamps are sold in a H4 configuration and would be a quality product but expect to pay around $40 for a pair.
There were 4 or 5 sites listed in the post that sell these lights - they averaged about $25/ea. They are good quality, but I would recommend changing to the Sylvania bulb.

I got mine from central trucking, they were back ordered for a week but they are cast aluminum housings with glass lenses and big rig style 9007 lights. I can't wait to get them in with a new harness and relays.
I ordered H4 conversion from a hotrod catalog. I think it was Speedway motors and Then I picked up some yellow tint 90/130 bulbs on Ebay. Less than a $100 for all and they work great in my 82. From what I understand earlier vette years may have smaller gauge wire, so take note if wires get hot, bad things happen. Ask me how I know

Were they a direct fit or did you have to open up the back of the buckets? I had to open up the buckets and lids on my last 80 and don't realy want to do that on the 78.
