Default shutter/stalling?

hey guys. so im on to the next project on my '81, and this one is starting to bother me a lil. when its cold outside, and a am driving, when i push on the throttle it will go, then cut and shutter for just a second, then kick in hard like ''vrooom'' cause im giving it gas so it doesnt die. but once im on the throttle hard it works fine till i hit second and then it will cut again and shutter till i give it way more gas. and the same for 3rd gear.

now, it does stop after driving the car for a really long time. i always warm my car before driving it. but she is way beyond warmed up and it still will do it.

any suggestions? thanks in advance!

81 model should be the E4MC computer controlled carb.

Does it have the hesitation when in park/neutral. If it does, pull the breather. With the engine off, make sure the choke flap is open and look down into the venturii. Run the throttle through a complete stroke and see if there are two streams of fuel. It should squirt for the entire stroke of the throttle.

well, at start up there is no problem. other than high idle for a second till it warms. and when im say, driving through my neighborhood at real low RPM its fine. just when i get on the highway and give it gas it has the problem. id say around 2K probably.

so check the fuel spray in the carb? like ive said before, im a noOb with carb engines. lol this is a 100% learning project for me.

Does it have the bog/stutter when you rev it up in park/neutral?

I just reread your original post and found this.

How long is a really long time? If your choke is malfunctioning, it would take quite a bit longer to open up if it is relying on engine heat alone to open. From dead cold after sitting overnight, a functioning choke should take no more than two minutes to open up. completely.

Yep. If you have a voltmeter, the power to the choke wire should be on anytime the key is on. 12 volts.

It could be. I'm not there looking at it to say for sure. 10 minutes of driving and a working choke would be open. If it is malfunctioning, it has to rely on engine heat to transfer through quite a bit of stuff....manifold, gaskets, carburetor, etc to make it to the choke cap and heat the coil up to open the choke flap. If you are dealing with outside temps the way the have been lately, it will take quite some time.
Stalling and a bog when driving that goes away after quite a bit of time, choke light on and off...it's where I would look first.
