Is this a restamp? Erv told me it is stamped to close to the block with the casting plug in the way. I am going to look at this car next week so it would be good to know if isnt real. Opinions? The engine pad is shown at the end f the auction. I would post it on the forum but dont know how. Thanks guys

Block was stamped with the build date & usage code before the heads are installed. The SN# was stamped when the engine is mated to the body with the heads on. Looks OK to me.

Can't tell definitively, but it looks like original broach marks as well. Looks good to me.
Thanks for all your opinions. The issue seems to be how close it is to the head and whether the engines were stamped before or after the heads were put on. Seems to be some contradicting ideas as to how the stamping was done. I find it all quite confusing.

Unclear what the contradiction may be? We know that engine plant machine stamp assembly dating was done with the heads off for big-blocks. Cursory view would deem the pad acceptable but would need to see in person and put my scope on it to get comfortable.
I have received some PM's from people who thought that the pad may have been stamped after the head was on. If it has been positively estabished that it was stamped with the heads off then I feel better about it. If you have your scope in San Fran next week I would love you to put it on it personally. I would even buy you a beer, or scotch, whatever your preference. I really hope the car is as nice in person as it looks in pictures. I am looking forward to seeing it this week.
Here is a link which I think may work to get ebay ad.
i beleive the pad was stamped with heads off. looks like you can see broach marks. looks legit to me. also check build date on block. if its correct along with casting # i dont see it being a restamp. thats one beautiful vette. good luck.
Well, its all a moot point now someone beat me to it. I spoke to the seller today and he said someone sent out an inspector who specializes in Corvettes to check the car out. He then gave him a deposit. I never heard of such an inspector but anyway I am a little dissapointed and the search goes on. Thanks for all your input.
