I have a '81 C3 with no compurter and 2.5 exhaust to mufflers. Midas did the exhaust a few years ago (previous owner) and did poor job of fitting it up. The RH "Y" pipe scrapes road regularly. I'm doing reapirs over the winter and have the exhaust removed and was going to refit it correctly. Just removed mufflers tonight and they have much rust inside them tumbling around. So they are pretty much toast. So now new mufflers are on the to get list. What in your opinion is a good muffler that will improve flow and not be too loud? Would Thrush turbos be fine or flowmasters? Input welcome Thanks in adavnce.
Well I did it I purchased 2 Flowmaster two chamber mufflers with 2.5 in and outlets. They were on ebay and the seller had a utube clips with some on a mild build 302 and it sounded great! Agressive but not too loud.
Flowmaster Delta 40's, makes em look!! HA! I dont seem to get the resonance everyone speaks of, just a healthy throaty note. When or if they ever go I'll replace them with the same
Sounds like you might just want to replace the Whole Exhaust. If you use a custom made Crossmember then you will not have to run a single exhaust around the stock Crossmember. If you contact Keiler or one of the other companys offering Trans Kits you will find the Crosmembers they offer. Once this is done You can go with a Duel Exhaust offered for the older C3's wich you will find in all the Vette Catalogs. People here will give you good idea's on wich ones work the best.
I had the same problem when I bought the car the "Y" wos close to the ground.
Now I have a true dual SS ex. with "X" from headhers to muffler from Pypes with one tip but I dont like too much maybe I install the Monza muffler with 2 tips.
I have the old crossmember no problem with the "X".
If you need a pictures just ask.
I'm happy if I can help you.
Flowmaster 50 series Delta Flow are on my '79 coupe. 2.5 inlet and outlet cat-back dual system. I'm very satisfied with them.
I agree with the others who give the advice to go to a true dual setup. I know that money is a big deal and some areas has smog laws that can rival **** Germany or any Homeowners Association.
Flowmaster and the other major muffler makers have dual setups for sale. I'm sure any of our supporting vendors can help you make the appropriate decision.

Thanks all! I wold love to put a true dual system on it. But the rest of the exhaust is solid as a rock. I want to keep cost down for now and stick with just mufflers. I spent way more than expected on repairs and the wife is becoming displeased with the cost of this car.Maybe for christmas next year??????
