I went to the shop today, In Sumerduck VA. Basically drive south from DC on Rt 29 to about the middle of nowhere and turn left.
It's near Culpeper.
In any case, I put down a deposit on a freshly built 468. Forged 9.8:1 pistons, forged H-beam rods, Cast Steel crank, 2 bolt block, Comp Cams Custom grind that their shop uses, but very close to an XE274 (He referred to it as a 565 Comp Cam custom grind set on a 112 Centerline). Harland Sharpe 1.7 Roller Rockers. Canfield alum heads with 2.25/1.90 Valves. Harmonic Balancer and Flywheel included. 7 QT Oil pan (made to fit a Vette) included too. Performance is Guaranteed on Pump Gas. I'm going to start with a Torker II intake and maybe try to squeeze a dual-plane in there if I decide the single plane isn't working out.
I Can't wait to drop this bad boy in, I should have it in about 30 days.
Now begins the race to finish the interior and pull the engine to prepare for this guy.
Great, I noticed that you currently have a small block and are going to have to do the conversion to BB. Please keep us posted and keep track of parts you needed for this (brackets, etc..) and let us know if you run across good sources for the parts.
Congratulations! If you can't find the BB brackets reasonably, look in the Camaro resto catalogs. About 1/2 the price.......I found out too late!
:yesnod: :chevy :chevy :yesnod:
Congrats!! Sound like a similiar buildup of my BB (except for the alum. heads). I am also going with those Harland Sharp rockers except I opted for the Diamond Series where they will fit under the stock valve covers. Can you get me the manufacturer and part # of that oil pan? I would appreciate it!!
Tominator: I shouldn't have to do too much really. My car was originally an L36 427 car, so I'm really just returning it to it's proper state. The only thing I'm even mildly concerned about at this point is the front springs. I'm not 100% sure that they are BB springs, but new ones aren't that expensive and are easy to come by. The Radiator, and everything else on that car, are big block items, so I'll be removing a lot of "creative" adaptations made by a previous owner to make them work with a small block.
MassVette: You don't have to tell me :). I own a 68 Camaro SS and it's one of the first things I noticed. The reverse light switch on the Muncie transmission is a good example. In year one it goes for about 40 bucks. In most Vette catalogs it's roughly 100. This is including the brackets. It's the same damn switch. I have all of the Camaro Resto catalogs and usually make a price comparison if I can. Some of the Nova and Chevelle outfits are good mags to keep around too. I would suggest that to any forum member, even if they don't own any of those cars. You really do find better deals that way sometimes.
427V8: He's guaranteeing at least 550 HP. He had one dyno out at 620 with this setup, but running a slightly bigger cam. We're going to dyno it before I take it home, so I'll let everyone know then.
Lasse: I haven't gotten it yet, but I'm going to go with a Holley 4150 series double pumper. I'm planning on bumping the primary jet size up to about 81 or so. A jet kit and some free time on a Saturday will determine the final combo.
Bob Turner: I'll call him tomorrow and find out. I'm not sure who the manufacturer is. The guy has a 68 Vette, so I'm sure he knows what will and won't fit a Vette. He pointed out on the build sheet that the 7 QT pan is "special for 3rd Gen Vette."
Update us!!!! What's new with the motor? It seems that your machine shop is ready to get this thing together quick! My machine shop has continued to delay starting it. I will be patient, however, since they have a great reputation. Plus, I don't have everything to start it up yet, so what's the rush??
Steve. Still looking for a set of used BB sidepipe headers. Haven't forgot. The one guy has not e-mailed back yet. Maybe I'll just sneak up to Georges (GDaina) tonight and BORROW his. Hell he can drive the Ferrari then. :D :D JCL   :chevy "Sidepipes are the way"

No update really, I originally wasn't planning on picking up the engine until late march early april. There's always the chance something might not be ready, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's later. It's okay though, I need to get my interior back in the car before I do anything engine related.
My carb and Intake I ordered off of ebay got here and they look fantastic! The water pump should be here this week.
It's all coming together, I'm pleased with the interior results so far.
I will definitely let everyone know when the engine gets here and I will take plenty of pictures.
