Default Hooker install issue

I picked up a set of s/c headers and pipes from Summit. The driver side header flange does not site flush on the head and the bolts will not pull it in without stripping.

If I were to lay flange on the ground it would rock longwise rather than set all four ports flush on the flat surface. The passenger side appears fine. I had to ding one of the down pipes in need of a ¼ clearance – but I suspect had the flange sat properly I would not have had to do this. Is there anything I can do?

Send them back, they should be flat across the sealing surface. Summit is pretty good about taking stuff back.

I called Summit this morning – excellent customer service. I told them I dinged one of the pipes to get around the steering box (probably due to the warped flange) and they are still taking them back. I’ll get the new ones in a few days – I asked if someone could put a straight edge on the flange prior to shipping, they said “absolutely”….not sure if someone will or not --

I had to ding mine to go past the steering box but it still fit fine at the flange. Glad to hear you are getting a new set.

Here"s what I dont understand about these Hooker headers. All they(hooker)has to do is shorten the pipes at the left head flange by 1/4-1/2 inch then you will have adequet clearance of the steering box
Is it that hard to properly make a part for a car thats been around for 30+ years??

I've got a set of hookers. They bolted one perfectly - no dings required.

My Hookers fit fine. No dings. If the pipes were shortened, I would be unable to get the plugs in and out (especially number 1). The product is just fine.

some of my friends and i have cut a straight line through the flange to alleviate flange warpage issues and also it has helped to extend gasket life by creating a tighter seal by elimenating the vibration issues.
