This is is going to sound dumb, bu t how do you add oil to a Torin Big Red floor jack. I have had the jack some time and it won't stay up. Looked at the web and found nothing and they never answer their phone.
You should see a rubber plug in the sleeve. It is the fill port.
With the cylinder in the down position fill to hole height, then raise and lower the cylinder numerous times to purge the air. You may have to top off fluid again to replace trapped air.
The fluid level when full is at the bottom of the fill hole.

Reason: sp
It takes fluid to lift and you did say it does, if it doesn't hold I'd lean toward a bad seal in the piston. The fluid is getting by and looses pressure. Just my experience.

It's weird. I have a small one that won't hold and a large one that won't go up. The small one I can get up, but immediately have to get on stands and the big one won't even go up. The big one hasn't really seen much use.
Thanks for the response. I am looking at them in the next 5 minutes.
Oops, I told you how to top up an engine hoist; but the procedure is much the same for all hydraulics.
For the floor jack remove the flat plate at the handle position and remove the plastic cap. That is the servicing port. Add fluid and cycle unit up and down to purge trapped air. Replace cap and plate.
The Torin people never answer their phone or answer emails. Go figure. I did loosen the large port and it purged some oil and I immediately closed it. Thought I would try to jack the car up to see what it would do and presto...it held. Can't figure that one out.
