the new 427 engine not yet installed , unfortunately, but go ahead in my thoughts and I think I'll need to fix the power brakes vacuum problem.
the new engine has about 5.5"hg at idle ( my former L88 6.2")
I've seen at summit some fairly cheap electric vacuum pumps (at last not expensive as hydroboost). any experience out there with such vac pumps?or known issue?
my car is meant to be "lightly" road raced. so i need brakes to work fine with frequent and hard braking
I thought about an electric pump, but opted to go with a vacuum reserve cannister. It turned out giving me great brakes so I just left it that way. Less expensive and easy to do. Good luck.
I use an SSBC electric vacuum pump on one of my cars due to manifold vacuum issues. Works great and is a good alternative to using hydroboost. I have hydroboost on the 'Vette. Brakes on both cars are very good. Just different solutions to the braking issues.
if your road racing i would assume idle vacuum doesn't matter.
maybe just a good check valve and canister would be sufficient.
I have still to check if any brake issue while road racing...it seems not ...but I have still to try frequent hard braking and see.
I'm evaluating different solutions:
-add vacuum cannister ( or use the vacuum cannister already there but connected to the headlights)
-electric vacuum pump
-interesting : an Opel alternator which has on the back also a vacuum pump. it's made for EU Opel diesel cars.if powerful enough and fits, it could be a nice solution
I just removed the charcoal can and installed the vacuum reserve in its place. Perfect fit.
my 69 has a vacuum can on driver's side. I have to check...but it seems to be a vacuum resrvoir for headlights or so.
may i use it as a vacuum reservoir for brakes too?
