Default Need some help with blower set up

I am thinking about adding on a weiand 144 low profile blower to my 75 l-48. I have 2 questions...first I just bought a mighty demon 750 carb and really do not want to take a loss on it and buy a new carb for a blower set up. Does anyone know what I have to change to my current carb so it will tune up with a blower application, and how much it will cost? My 2nd question is I expect that the blower will not fit under my stock hood although it is a lowprofile design. Does anyone know what hood would work? Or know of a scoop that can be added that doesn't look stupid?

Thank you!

Glasstek has a 5in cowl hood that would most likely work. It clears my tall Offy Equaflow 360 manifold and dual quad setup by 1-1/2 with the air cleaners. I didn't want to cut up my original hood, but the glasstek hood uses the stock hardware from your original hood. It's not exactly "stealthy" though ;-)

you would have to make it a boost reference carb.

I have always just blocked off the power valves and jetted up.

How much boost are you planning to run ?? gonna use race Fuel ??? Cast Pistons with any amount of detonation will not last long and won't tolerate much more than about 5psi. boost ...

It's been a few years since I modified my 600 holley's. You will need to machine or grind a groove in the throttle plate and plug off another throttle plate port if I recall correctly. I had called Holley, and one of there techs faxed me the information on how to modify the carb so it would be boost referenced. I looked around, and can't find the sheet. It may be at work in a file. I'll check tomorrow.

I ran the B&M 144 with a non boost referenced 800 dbl pumper on a 400 ci sbc with AFR 190cc heads and a (comp cams nitrous hp 249-CL12-560-4) 268/286Dur 477/490 Lift (1.6 rockers) 500hp 550trq

You don't have to boost reference the carb, but they recommend it for street driven vehicles. I was not boost referenced and got 14 mpg out in a 5030 lb truck, lifted with 35" tires.

Cost wise, I'm not sure, I had the good fortune of having a machinist friend do it for free. It can be done by hand.

Oops my bad, I see now you said it was a mighty demon not a holley. Sorry.

What you are essentially doing is blocking the power valve vacuum port from the bottom of the carb base and drilling a new port in the side connecting it to a source below the rotors.
This link should help.....

When you ran 144 did it fit under the stock hood or did you cut a hole in your hood and use the scoop? I see the blower you have now in your default is not the 144.

No it didn't fit under the stock hood. I attached a few photos to give you perspective. Sorry I didn't take any clearance measurements. I never ran the little blower on the 73' I ran it in a 75 K1500 4x4. I used hyper pistons at 7psi boost. I broke a few pistons. After that I dyno tuned the motor, and never broke one again.

I'd also upgraded the balancer to something other then the stock cast iron one. Summit makes some inexpensive steel dampners. It may not be necessary with the 144, but I wouldn't take the chance.
