Should I use the spray on glue, or the canned stuff?
Any tricks to it?
when I removed the old carpet, there were long plastic borders attached to the carpet, they look like they were part of the carpet, and the snap on top the door borders and rear compartment, do they come with the new set?
I purchased a set from Romeo Engineering for my 78
Any installation tips would be very helpful.
thanks
Dave
I'm interested in repsonse to this thread too. I am getting ready to do mine in the 82. The plastic strips are on mine from ACC. I believe they are for the sides which go under the door sills, they have screw holes in them.
Did you recieve your carpet yet? I know some guys on the forum have had really bad experiences with Romeo Engineering. I am interested to see if their customer service has improved any. I havn't done mine yet but I plan on using spray. Also, let the carpet set in the sun for a couple hours before installation.
I just installed mine from Ecklers. It had the plactic strips on by the door sills and by the upper rear compartment. I didn't use any adhesive on the floor pieces. Just got the carpet warm and layed it in. On the seat backs and kick panels, rear compartment doors I used spray-on but I think in the can and a brush would have worked easier. The front set came with the jute pad on them.
I still have my old ones, if you end up needing the plastic strips let me know. I will cut them off and send them to you.
Just installed mine and in the front sections didn't have to use any spray. Might want to pull it up someday. Need to use some for the back of the seats and your rear compartment doors of coarse and your kickpanels. I used high-tack 76 from 3m. Spray both pieces, wait a few minutes for it to tack up and put it together. Just be carefull cause once its stuck ITS STUCK. Didn't use any spray for the back either. Let the chrome hold down for your top straps hold it down and your rear compartment doors as well. It all goes together pretty easy once you get started. Got mine from Corvette America. Good people to deal with.
On my 79 I used the 3M spray adhesive on the console side trim, kick panels and the seat backs. For the floor and rear compartment you should not use the spray. My carpet came with all of the plastic snap trim for the door jams and rear compartment already installed. I did mine about 8 years ago (think I got it from Ecklers). when using the spray make sure it tacks up good before setting the carpet and use some weight to hold down any corners/edges until it sets.
