Default Custom audio in your C3

I'm restoring the inside of my 74 right now. The previous owner cut out the gauge cluster to fit a single DIN deck. I would really like a screen but can't seem to see how I could fit it. What are you running for head units? Im thinking of building a custom speaker box in the trunk to fit 2 amp powered 6x9's. What and where are you running speakers?

When I had my dash out I installed new 3x5 speakers up front, (just some cheap tweeter/midrange combos). I also installed new, cheap 6x9's in the rear in standard place. Then I cut a single DIN opening in the gauge cluster panel. To be honest, it still sounded like crap. There was no bass at all which I guess did not surprise me. My next attempt will be to sink a base speaker into one of the storage compartments and use the compartment as the space for the bass enclosure. It will have to be made airtight and the dimensions of the compartment space will have to match the speaker size, (for example a 10" bass speaker may require .3 cu. ft. of volume, or whatever...). Instead of using the front dash speakers I will install speakers in the front kick panels and feed everything with a healthy amp. I don't think you will get much more than maybe 1 and a half DIN size receiver in the front cluster unless you do a remote head unit. As far as amp location, I have seen thin amps fit behind the driver or passenger seat against the rear wall right behind the seat. You will need to check clearance and may not be able to put seat all the way back. I have seen some people build a rear speaker enclosure to hold a bass speaker, two rear speakers and an amp but I didn't like those because they may interfere with t-top storage. If you put anything in the back, make sure you secure it! If you ever have to stomp on the brakes those things will come flying forward like a missle. Have fun...

Found a pic of the bass in the storage compartment and a link that should help.

Stock speaker locations, at least in my '79, are the 2 front dash speakers and two rear speakers way in the back as far as you can go. Tailights are behind them.
