Default Radio Speakers

Where can I get a pair of 10 ohm speakers for my 1969 Corvette that will fit in the kick panel? I had the radio repaired and they said the replacement speakers sold by Corvette Supplier's are incorrect and not to use them.

Try Corvette America, they sell kick panel speakers for upgraded radios, and Corvette Central has others as well. Best to talk to them if you order, just to be sure.

Go to onlinecarstereos.com and look for some 5"X7" oval or 5-1/4" round speakers with 8 ohm impedence. Don't go any lower than 8 ohms, if you don't want to burn out your radio/amp. The 10 ohm replacement speakers the aftermarket places sell are junk!

Might give this outfit a look. Don't know anything about them, but they do address the 69. By the way, you wouldn't happen to have any extra speaker brackets? My 69 is in need. Good luck.

You don't really need any 'brackets' for the kickpanel areas. There is enough metal framework in there to find at least two (or three) places where you can drill mounting holes for the speaker frame screws. Then just put some foam or fibrefill batting behind them to limit any metal resonance and cover with the kickpanel. Or you can cut a hole in the kickpanel and put a speaker cover on it, if it comes with one. I chose speakers with a flat-plate frame and just put the kickpanels over them...so I didn't have to cut them up. They sound great.

69vette19467, thanks for that link. Their speaker looks good and if the discription of the performance is accurate they should work fine. Just what I have been looking for. Sorry, can't help with the mounts. Only have the 2 that are on the car now.

Default 1969 Kick panel speakers

I just bought 'exact replacement' kick panel speakers w/ mounting bracelets from Mid America..uses3x10 very thin to fit into the kick panels. Just tried to put them in today, size is right but they're too thick..by the way, they sound great but they won't fit with the kick panel in place. I can use a hammer on the inside behind the kick panel but really don't want to unless it's the last resort...what should I do??? Not easy to get these speakers...

I just installed these:

Expensive, but they fit and work. You have to reuse the bracket from the old speakers or fabricate one.

Thanks...Just ordered a pair today. Returning the other ones to Mid America. They sounded great but there's no way I can get them in even if I cut out the opening and hammer the metal opening. Hopefully, these will sound as good even though the magnet is a lot smaller on the back..at least they'll fit!!
