1) What hardware holds the hood prop to the hood ? Mine has two slotted machine screws , is that correct ? Doesn't look right .
2)Oil pressure gage wasn't hooked up , had a plug in the block , reattached line but no reading , could air in the line be a problem ?
3)Tach not working , pulled the cable end on the distributor , it's turning there , cable appears to turn freely , i can't get the other end
of the cable off the tach so i dont know if its turning there .
4)Ammeter doesn't appear to be working .
I'm sure all these issues have been discussed a million times , so pls point me in the right direction .
What's the best Service Manual to buy ? I can see i'll need one .

#1: two 1/4-20NC hex head bolts hold hood support to hood.
#2: air would not effect the operation of the oil pressure guage, either the line is blocked or guage is defective.
#3: tach drive failure can be bad distributor gear, broken cable, or failed tach. Disconnect tach cable by depressing metal retainer clip on rear of tach (tang is on bottom side of cable) and pulling out cable from tach housing, it's hard to reach but disconnection is only way to confirm your cable is intact. The good news: reinstalltion just requires lining up drive square into tach and pushing cable back into to guage.
#4: failure of ammeter is common problem in C3 Vettes, most likley guage but could be wiring.
My ammaeter on my 70 didn't work until I bought a new Lectric Limited wiring harness.

The 2 manuals that many people feel are the most useful and helpful are the GM CHASSIS SERVICE MANUAL and the ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTION MANUAL (called the AIM in short-speak). There is an edition of each of these for your 70. Many of the vendors sell these publications.

Air will not keep the gauge from working. It is possible the gauge itself is gummed up and this is a very easy fix.
Here is some info on this. http://willcoxcorvette.com/repairand...lp.php?hID=101

The tach cable on the back of the tachometer is held on place with a clip. You'll need to push the clip towards your body and at the same time push the cable toward you before pulling forward. This is a real pain, but pushing the cable housing toward your will help release the clip from the cable, then pull it off the head.
Also, even if the cross gear is moving, pull the coupling and inspect it. The gear could be stripped and if you don't have the cable attached in some cases it can still turn. (no drag).
Check this and then check the cable. Once you have the cable off the car, inspect the ends to make sure they are not broken. If the inside tip is broken, there is a way to get this out without pulling the tach. If the tip is broken, then odds are you're going to need to pull the tach from the car for a repair. (we do this in house too).

I would check the fusible links as described above and then if that is not the problem
The ammeter is actually a milliammeter that measures the flow of current in amperes. You really don’t want to hook up 12 volts to this gauge, generally it will cook it!
About the best way to test the gauge is to check for polarity between the poles. If you have polarity then the gauge is good! If you want to do a low volt quick check you can use two double A batteries and solder them in a series. Then solder a power wire from one side and a ground to the other side.
When done, you can touch this over the poles and the gauge should deflect one way, reverse this and the gauge should move the other. Aside from this there really is nothing else you can do to the gauge. If the gauge pass’s this test it is working and I would look for a wiring issue with the car.

Personally I used only the factory service manual and the AIM. The pdf Version of the Aim is to me the best AIM you can buy. http://willcoxcorvette.com/product_i...ducts_id=25565

I actually got to drive it for a couple of miles , felt great , steering
wanders quite a bit , i'll try and adjust the st.box , that may cure some of it .
Also , were door edge guards a factory option ? Mine has 'em in black , not too sure i like them .
Thanks ............................ Doug.
