How much space is there between the cover and the muffler?

There is about 1/4" to 3/8" space between the muffler and cover at the bottom of the cover. Not enough room to slip even my finger tips in. Remember though... since the shape of the muffler varies so does the space.

Hi MS,
What I was saying was that in section the muffler is pinched in the middle... sort of like a gentle '8'.
