I am upgrading my stock squared off 2.5 inch exhaust on my 65 sb coupe to a true round 2.5 inch system with an X-pipe. I am currently running Dynomax trubo mufflers that flow 370 cfm (per dynomax). Dynomax told me that the ultraflow mufflers will flow 1,100 cfm. I am running a pretty healthy 406 (see sig).
Is it worth the $$ to upgrade to the ultraflows? The flow #'s sure seem to say so, but I don't know how much flow I need to support my 406.
Re: How much HP difference do mufflers make? (damac)
I'm running 2 1/2" in & out SS Ultraflos & am very happy w/ them. I definitely felt the difference between them & the turbo type muffs that they replaced. The SS type is pretty expensive due to the finish but you can now get the same muff w/ standard finish for a pretty good price. FYIW, the sound is just what I was looking for- raspy burble at idle, quiet at cruise, & nasty when you hit the throttle.

There going to be REALLY REALLY loud. But, I am planning on having an H-pipe some where on the system. I don't know if I want to do it closer to the headers and get more power, or closer to the tips and soften it down a little bit.
