Just a week ago my passenger side headlight started raising half way up and stopping or getting stuck. Sometimes it will go all the way up but most of the time it will stick in the middle. This just started happening a week ago so what could be the problem all the vacuum hoses are connected that I know of.
If anybody knows maybe some ideas on how to fix it, it will be appreciated because when I was I kid I used to make fun of corvettes with only one light up now look what happend!!!!!!!!!
Check to ensure that you don't have any leaks in any of the vacuum hoses. Use a handheld vacuum pump to see if the light comes up. Do you have a manual for the vette? Check it to see what it says.
either a relay or vacuum actuator seal-guaranteed. when ever you only have one light that is the culprit you have to look at where the system splits. not as familiar with the '73 system but i've seen it. you have one line that goes into your vacuum reservour in the front, as i remember the reservour is a sealed pipe that is used as part of the front frame extention/bumber housing. from that you have two lines going out, one to each relay which should be mounted on the underside of the nose just in front of the hood opening. with engine running and hood open, listen for a hiss coming from this area, you may or may not be able to hear it depending on your hearing and how loud your engine is. if in doubt, you can switch the lines going into the relays. if the problem goes over to the other light, it's the relay. if it stays on the same light it is the actuator seal. might still be a hose, but it'll be a hose somewhere between that reservour and the light your having trouble with, but i really doubt it! :smash:
Ah, that one is gonna be fun to track down. First instinct is that it is the passenger side light but it gets the vacume last so the leak could be anywhere along the line. Time to get rebuild kits for those actuators. They don't cost much and if one goes bad the rest can't be far behind. Check the hoses for bad grip where they attach but that is a remote possibility. Had the small filter on top of the engine come unglued once, rare but one of the last things you check because it is rare. Actuator seal most likely culprit.
My '72 had the original sugar cube square steel vacuum reservoir located in the driver's wheel well, under the master cylinder, it developed stress cracks in the shell, and no longer worked....
but with your car, you will probably find the actuator seals are bad...
known as the 'witches hat' in the trade....about 15 bux each...do both while you have it all outta there, take off the hood...to allow for easy removal..too much chance of stratching hood....
there is an outer dust cover then the internal vac seal...
