I've got a 76 and am ready to replace the no longer working stereo and speakers. I'm looking at the KHE 300. Does anyone have any experience with this and, if so, what do you think?
As far as speakers go, I've always been a fan of Boston Acoustics but don't know if they are best suited for a C3. Thoughts, suggestions?
Any and all comments would be greatly appreciated (unless you work for Pioneer and are trying to push your wares upon me)

From my experience:
If hi-fidelty audio is your priority, then get a purpose designed head unit... but be prepared to modify the console, or get an aftermarket console with the correct DIN cutout for the head unit.
If you want a radio to look "original", then get the KHE, but be prepared for some additional outlay for an amp.
Appearance wise, they have a good look similar to the original radios.
But they are very ordinary as far as performance goes.
The claimed power outputs are very optimistic.
I run a high level input power amp to drive the rear speakers to provide a decent sound level in the car whilst cruizing.
Back lighting of my display failed after 2 years, and I've never had satisfactory AM reception... FM radio is OK if you have a good antenna with a proper ground plane.
I also bought one of their 12 stack CD players to operate directly from the head unit too.... worked for about a year, then failed.
Haven't found anyone who can provide service info/documentation to rectify. So now I use an IPod with an FM transmitter. That seems to work fine.
I would agree that the KHE-300 is not an outstanding performer but it certainly is more-than-adequate for my listening purposes (1960s and 1970s). It drives two Pioneer 4 x6s in the upper dash and two Polk 651 6 1/2"s in the kick panels. Certainly given its price it is good value for money spent. Compared to the stereo these cars came with the difference is very, very much improved.
This Blaupunkt 8" subwoofer with integated amplifier enhances bass.
