I'm thinking the '68s did not have the loops and the metal loop bezels were way later. '68 AIM will show them if they were used.

I installed the metal loop bezels on my '68.

I'll be damned!

Mike is correct, the '68 AIM shows no strap or metal loop. I always thought that the '68 used the straps and '69up used the metal loops, now can someone tell me how it was possible to lift the lids?

I believe the vinyl pull straps were added in mid 69 production.
What's interesting is that there was a Technical Service Bulletin to the dealers instructing them to install the straps on 68s and early 69s IF the customer COMPLAINED.
Regards,
Alan

In that case, I'm going to the dealer tomorrow.

What the hell were they thinking not putting something to grab onto?

Mine have the original spring hinges and no loops. I ended up removing the hinges and selling them, because it was almost impossible to get them to line up and not strip out the metal support behind the fiberglass. Very poor design, so forgive me NCRS guys for changing them out.

FYI - The correct hinges will have a metal loop at the end of the hinge pivot at when closed acts like a spring under tension to pop them open. Another cool 68 only item.

I've got the hinges from my parts car, I knew I had heard that they were unique but couldn't remember what it was. Thanks.
