Default 1979 L82 Exhaust

I am planning on replacing the stock (and I do mean totally stock right down to original cat) system with a Magnaflow stainless dual package that includes all pipes and mufflers.

Magnaflow does not have a listing for a C3's beyond 74 and since the L82 requires a 2.5 inch pipes, I selected the 74 big block package, part number 16836.

5 x 8 x 14in. Mufflers, 2,5in. System, Dual 2.5in. Polished Turn-Down Tips, Dual Rear Exit. Go to link to see photo:

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...one=all&id=456

I hope everything will bolt straigt up to the stock 350 exhaust manifolds, anyone used this kit? Will I have to make any modifications, ie change pipes at the manifold???

Thanks for your input,

Adrian

The transmisssion crossmember was changed somewhere along the later years maybe '78 or so, (dunno, CRS) if you've got an automatic then all you would need to do is hunt down an earlier year crossmember to bolt in so your front pipes will go thru the holes, if not, then you need skills or a friendly muffler shop. You might get the smog police mad at ya too. Good Luck, Peace,,,Moosie

P.S. The front pipes probably will need some mods cause of them being for a B.B. , different manifold exit locations between the two different size motors.

Consider a muffler shop to custom build one for you

Default Check your Local Laws First

The muffler hangers on the 74 do not look like the 78 and up. Most late model L48 & L82 had 2" connection at the exhaust manifold.
$900 wow, I would check Corvette Central.

that way you can have any joints welded and forget the pipe clamps. Just buy the Magnaflow mufflers and like 98MustGT said, have a shop build the system. If you are thinking about Headers, do it now.

Their system is meant to bolt up to stock exhaust so if you go with the big block kit it won't mate up. With it being stainless you have to find some one that could weld it oil changes are needed.

I think the L82 had air injection (my 80 did but not sure of 79) but if you don't need for emissions it makes things easier. The stock 75 and later cars used a 2 in outlet manifold however you can still find used small block rams horn manifolds from earlier cars (73 and earlier I think) that came with 2.5 outlet manifolds.

Unless your on the track the 2.25 small block should be OK and a better fit.

Call magniflow and see what they have to say about matching up exhaust manifolds for best performance with stock type exhaust.

On my car I went with Sanderson cast exhaust headers to improve exhaust flow but keep the engine compartment heat down. I used to run headers and got tired of heat effecting things.

Last year for C3s. There is a bracket to hold the pipe centered in the hole, but only on the passenger side. Get one.
