Default 1972 corvette spare tire jack date code?

I came across a spare tire jack & handle for a 72 and was wondering if date code is correct for my year? It say's up near the nut 1E27. I don't see any 2 digit numbers on side? Does anyone know if its correct. Thanks!

That date code is May 27th 1971. If your car was built less than 6 months after that, this should be a correct jack.

Hi,
This is a new one for me.
I've always thought for 68-72 the stamp was just a single digit for the year follwed by a letter for the month, (no day), and was stamped on the side arm.
Was this a change for 72 model year cars?
Regards,
Alan

Hey Alan i thought the same according to reading a restoration guide book about just two digits on side but also heard that the four digit on top nut area is also correct? I'm not sure if thats for 72' only though. Any other thoughts or tips on this is appreciated. Thanks

Hi RF,
Now I AM curious.
What nut are you referring to.... the nut/head that the crank connects to or the 'fixed' nut that the threaded rod turns in to raise the arms?

Alan

The nut where you turn with handle. Just below it is the four digit number 1E27.

I remember reading that the code went to a full YMDD format during the C3 era but can't find my reference for exactly when.

I'd like to know when also. My '69 just has "9 K."

Does this mean that RF is looking at an 1981 jack?

Hi G,
I believe 69 jacks had a date code on the outer arm near the cranking end. The code is a number for the year and a letter for the month.
The jacks also have a large A stamped n the part of the pad that contacts the chassis. Thanks NCRS.
So I'd say you're seeing 79 jack.
Regards,
Alan
