Default Setting Initial Timing 350/350 GM style cam

Have a 77 350 rebuild with 350/350 GM style cam hdry lifter. Anyone set one of these and knows what best initial timing might be for this cam? When I put the vac on the advance it pulls up to about 12 degrees at idle--take vac off and the initial went back to 0. I have moved the initial up to 5 degrees and then plug the vac back on and it goes to about 17 at idle.

Should the initial be any more than 5 degrees with vac disconnected?
Thanks for any help----

I would guess your initial with the vacuum advance line disconnected and plugged would be around 12 or 14. Check the timing sticky at the top of the tech and performance page for help setting your advance curve.
