I am looking at a 69 "big block" car. It has a non numbers BBC right now. I am a GM guy and can recite production numbers and differences in other chevy muscle but Im new to vettes. So could someone tell me how to tell between a big block and small block car. I dont want to buy a car with the thought that its a 427 car and it turns out to be a 350 bargain basement sham.
The best and only real way is to look at the build Sheet wich was at one time on the Top of the gas tank. Short of that Look at the Rear End. The 1/2 Shaft U-Joints should be held with Caps and not Straps but that could of been changed since. The Rear should also have a Code on the Bottom wich could tell if it was a Big Block or not. A lot of people advertize a 427 as a rare car but they made a lot of 390 HP Cars not all that many less than Small Blocks.
