Default Blown big block question

Hi.
Is it possible to drop the motor lower on the mounts without fouling the crossmember (clip?) '81 C3
I have to try & get the top of the blower as low as possible for road legality. Who makes the lowest profile intake manifold for a 6-71?
I can machine the top of the blower so I can mount the carbs straight on top using a a st/steel shim to cover the gaps. I thought about using a cobra style oval air filter as they are not too high.
Any ideas or suggestions to make it all lower greatly received.
Cheers.

I don't think it is possible or even desireable if it could be done as you would be messing with all of your driveline angles as a result. Better to modify the hood or some other way. Actually for legality, maybe you could shim up the body mounts to raise the body a little so the blower doesn't stick out as much. Can't help you much on the intake. Sounds like a cool project.

I don't think all the effort will lower it any appreciable amount.
Mine is a B&M 420 (between a 6 and an 8-71) with the carbs mounted directly to the blower case and is a little shorter than the typical roots style such as Weiand and BDS etc.

The only way would be to run a blower like mine, wieand 144,it will fit under l88 hood with wedge low profile breather.

I like the injector scoop shown through the hood,if i took scoop off the setup would fit under hood.Other then this wieand blower theres noway you will get a 671 under a hood.

I can't find it , but I have seen a picture of a blower where the carbs hung off to the sides of the blower ....kinda like the old 413 wedge intake setup where the carbs hung out over the valve covers....
but this would have to be fabbed to make something for your app.

Still would not work with 671 or bigger blower, blower just too big.

Don't ask how old I am but I have seen one of these adapted to the top of a Blower in a digger...

if one had access to materials etc... you could make it work and still stay under the hood ??

Alot more work than what I would want to go thru !!!! LOL

Billysvette.
That looks nice!

Yellow72
Looks good but the shotgun scoop raises the height too much for mine.

I have an L88 bulge to glass on which will help disguise things a bit. When finances permit, I would like to go for an aftermarket EFI such as the Force efi with a modded bugcatcher. For the moment I need to stick with carbs. I have a pair of Holleys, does anyone know if Edelbrocks are any shorter. I also have a pair of Predators- They are huge! Over 5 inches tall! so they are out.

EDIT. That last pic from Yellow72 looks bang on for me. What is the setup? Manifold etc? Think the overall height of bb over sb is about 3/4" as I recall so shouldn't stick out much more than last pic

It's a B&M/Holley 420 Megablower and manifold, they are no longer made but I've seen new and used ones on ebay.

Dude you could take the carbs completely off and the blower and the blower its self would stick out of the hood.

That's perfect. Who makes the air cleaner? I will see if I can get the sizes B&M V my Weiand to see what the difference would be.

Rmorgan&11 & 69ttop502
I like your thinking, but I think to make any real difference by spacing the body would spoil the low stance of the vette (monster truck??)

The cross ram thingy may work but I think it looks "akward"
But thanks for the ideas,

Probably not enough room up front and lower for a set-up like this,
this type of set-up was used a lot at Bonneville where streamlining was a necessity. I hope the picture shows up. Peace,,,Moosie

I would think that dropping the motormount/engine, would mess up the driveline angles....causing vibration.

Maybe EFI + Supercharger could help ( even if this one is probably for a SBC ) :

Remove the carb + air cleaner and you've got a low profile intake !

This 74 is not too bad either, but probably not street legal everywhere :
