When I was doing an engine bay restoration on my 76 vette, the hood became stuck once I tried to reinstall it. This was a pain to get loose. I went to the forum for help and came up with many different ways to get it loose from cutting the hood to jumping on it. I later found a thread saying to reach your arm through the control arm openings and loosen the bolts on the hood. Even though this worked, it still took around 3 hours to get free. When I went to reset it for the second time I wanted to be sure that I could get it free again so I made this. It is a manual way to open the hood in the case of the hood release isn’t working or it breaks. Now the security part of it is that the only way to reach the release is to turn the wheal to full left or else it can't be touched. Hope this can help someone.

I've got them on both sides, very thin mechanics wire but strong you don't even see them and I have tested it out. Been there for tens years or since the first time I locked myself out

Great idea. I was thinking of doing something like Motorhead has done. May have to borrow this idea one of these days. Wonder if you could sell this to Mid America or some of those guys. Nice work.
Consider your idea "stolen" and it's heading Down Under. That's what I love about this Forum, a private Corvette owner invents something that the big Corvette vendors should have had on sale decades ago. Full marks to you for this.

I believe it was mentioned on this forum once before, but if you look on the firewall area to the drivers side of the hood latch pin/spring assembly (driver and passanger side), you'll see plastic plugs that cover holes that lead into the wiper area, one on each side. With the hood latched closed, if you go in from the wiper area, drivers side, and pop that plug out you can get a screwdriver in there to push on the drivers side latch piece (the piece that has the 90 deg bent "tang" pointing down, directly across from where you welded the extension on to hook the rod). If the cable is still connected to the passenger side, it should open both latches. The passenger side doesn't have that "tang" on it but I think you should be able to move that latch piece towards the drivers side with a screwdriver (thru the popped plug on the passenger side) to open that latch if the cable connecting the two sides isn't doing its job. Looks like the factory foresaw this problem and put the access plugs in there for this exact reason. I'm sure if you search this forum you'll find the original post and who posted it. I read it, went and looked at mine (also a 76) and saw what he was talking about... and have wanted to thank him since, because I'm sure one day Murphys Law is going to rule (again) and I'm going to have to pop the hood that way.
