Default HELP - Muncie too short ?

I put a 4 spd Muncie in my 69. I thought this is what came out of it originally. Evidently not. The location where the shifter comes up is short of where the hole in the hump is. I had to cut a new hole about 6 inches forward of the old hole. Strange. Ideas ?

Is the tranny x-member a bolt in or welded in unit?

Yes something is wrong. Muncies are all the same length. There are tailhousings with different mount patterns or dual patterns. Sounds like shifter is in wrong place on trans.

Default correct transmission, wrong shifter

You just need the correct shifter for the corvette. The M21 was put in dozens of applications over the years and so has many different shifter locations (not including aftermarket possibilities). I think you don't have the wrong transmission, just the wrong shifter. you'll prolly want to find the correct shifter (and handle) to put it where you want it. If you can find out what shifter and handle you have, you can prolly put it on eBay to offset some of your costs.

Good Luck!

You have the right trans and the wrong shifter. Did you cut your floor out?

The shifter does not bolt directly to the transmission. You are missing the shifter bracket.

Unless it's a Hurst. My Hurst shifter is bolted to the trans via an adapter plate.

I believe Muncies come in 2 lengths, not sure but I believe pre '70 is 1" shorter than post '70.

Even if this were true, which I don't think it is, that would not account for the 6" difference in shifter location.

The question is, will the new floorboard hole match up with the console opening? I seriously doubt it. They put the hole in the floor at the factory, it make no sense to modify it because the shifter does not line up.
