Default why would bubba do this to cruise?

cruise control has never worked. finally decide to troubleshoot. some previous owner had replaced the two-part cable (that passes thru control unit) with a single cable that goes direct trans to spedo like a non-cruise car.

anybody want to guess at why bubba did that?

I understand the cable could have broken, but if you gotta get a replacement cable, why replace with wrong one?

now gotta decide if I should fix it right, or continue bubba-izing, remove cruise unit and swap turn signal lever for non-cruise one. It would really suck to put new cable on and cruise control unit be bad.

The transducer would freeze up and wring the cables off. The fix is to put the long cable on and remove the transducer. Common fix.

I did the same thing with mine. I did not want to spend 129 dollars on a new cruise control transducer so I just ran the long cable ($20) from the tranny to the speedometer. i will change it back some time.

Default OCD - get right or get out

thanks for the info. I am one of those people who have to fix it or remove it. My choices are $200.00 for a control unit and cables or $20.00 for a non-cruise turn leaver (less what I sell lever and brackets for on e-bay).

I don't care myself if cruise is there, but how much does it affect resale if there is no cruise control?

You have one more choice...remove the transducer open it up clean it..a little lube & chances are pretty good it's going to work pretty good. There is a post in here someplace I did mine but took no pics..it works ok

Fix it. But, pull the control unit and disassemble it [carefully, of course]. Usually, a good cleaning and clearing of orifices will fix most of them. If you damage it in the process, it still works as a "core" exchange for a replacement. You might just fix it for free.

I might be interested in your cruise lever and brackets if you decide to convert to non-cruise. My Corvette came with every option except cruise control. I was thinking of putting in an aftermarket cruise control but my husband might prefer to convert to a factory style if its not too much trouble.
