Default Rubbing finish out

The weather here is starting to moderate a bit and I'd like to take some of the swirl marks out of the finish. I've got a midnight blue color with clearcoat on the car now. I've been told I can use a foam pad w/ Maguires #2 and it will take the swirl marks out. Any thoughts on this? A friend of mine has a device that can measure paint/clearcoat depth. Seems like a good tool to have to see how much paint you have to work with. Anyone know how to read this device and how to interpret the readings?? Also, if anyone has any suggestions on products to use. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best the finish in my opinion is a 8.5-9. I'd be happy if I can get some of the scratches and swirl marks out. Your opinions please.

I use Transtar swirl mark remover then use Transtar Imperial Hand Glaze. I have also used Purple Magic but it's a bit pricey.
