Well my buddy is visiting San Diego so he has my daily driver and I have been taking the Vette to work. As luck will have it, it decides to rain which happens what about five times a year so of course my Vette is dirty, oh well. I go to turn on the wipers which everything is all new. Well they work fine long enough to get on the freeway and then one blade grabs the other blade and start this arm wrestling sort of thing. The new motor is groaning loud enough so I turn them off but not in time and the left wiper grabs the right blade and strips out the refill and breaks off the little arms that connect the filler to the main arm. Then the left wiper waives all this broken cra@ all in front of my face so I cannot see.
and then freezes right in my view when I go to turn it off. Well I got into work safely but had to manually force the blades down under the hood so tommorow I am wondering what kind of damage was done to my window/ w. motor/ wiper arms etc.
Has this happended to anyone??? :nonod: :nonod:
when going into the down position, same thing if it's 'off' or at end of stroke, the driver's blade had to beat the passenger's blade going down...
so make sure the driver's side arm is nearly full extended, and the pass side is short,....not nearly so critical on your car, being a '77, with open hood there....try these adjustments on a 68-72 one time...PIA, they are....
Had something similar on my 68. In case you have not tried to adjust them, there are 3 adjustments. There are a couple of screws on each wiper link assembly, near the center motor attachment point. You can loosen and adjust these in or out to get the appropriate travel from each wiper arm, and prevent them from interfering with each other.
On the central nut, connecting the transmission to the motor, there is also an adjustment. This can be loosened and slid back and fort to adjust the wipers so they both lower to the correct position.
Hope this helps.
