I am installing a new radio and speakers into the '69. Bubba's Kraco has bit the dust and he blew out both the speakers. After pulling the passenger side dash, I found this transistor and heat sink. The wires coming from it on the left are not connected to anything. The plug was just dangling. What is this and what did bubba remove? Maybe Transistorized ignition? Thanks....
That is what the service manual calls the "Heat Sink Assembly" It was used on both the mono AM/FM and the stereo AM/FM. The stereo AM/FM radio also had a "Multiplex Assembly", in the same general area. It was about 4 times the size of the heat sink assembly.

Ah, that's what I have...the multiplex assembly. It is attached to the heat sink actually. I looked at the whole assembly and wondered why Toms was missing the other, much bigger piece :D
By this drawing it appears that the Heat Sink and the Multiplxer are not connected to eachother, both connect independently to the radio.

It may be a mid year design change or something (69's have lots of those). My heat sink is bolted directly to the top of my multiplex unit (which has it's own heat sink). My heat sink looks exactly like the one above, except for the mounting plate.
