I am about to replace the stock front coil springs on my '71 coupe with new ones that have been cut down (one coil shorter). Want to lower the front end a wee bit.
Will I have to make any more changes to the front suspension to accomodate the shorter springs? Different front shocks?
Who else has done this to a chrome bumper car and what else needs to be done?
You may need to shorten the rubber snubbers on the contol arms to get enough vertical travel for the springs to function. If the snubbers are too tall, they will make contact with the frame when the spring compresses just a little. This results in a very rough ride.
I was more concerned about having to change shocks or other components to accomodate this change. I will do the alignment myself when done. While I'm at it, I'll also change out the ball joints and check out the rest of the front suspension.
I have a new set of VPB 550# front springs and the original front springs for sale when done, if anyone is interested. I won't be needing either set.
