Default 69-72 headlight assembly spacers

I guess there's never really been any good examples of these as I have gotten a number of email requesting pics and measurements. So here it is for everyone. These are an original set of GM replacement headlamp assembly spacers for use on 69-72 cars so they can use the replacement part of 73 and 74 headlamp brackets. They are 1" long x 1" wide x .5" thick. Simple and easy to make I would guess.

Beer cap is for reference size only...

package came with two spacers and two bolts... I got this from another member here on the forum.

here's a diagram so everyone can better visualize where these parts were used. They are to be placed under the bracket arms then fit on top of and bolted down to the front fender upper. Pay no attention to the red highlight... i borrowed that from a different post.

with the change to the molded front bumper in 1973 the headlamp assembly bracket design was changed. As the original units were no longer being produced there had to be a service replacement for the 69-72 cars. So GM produced these spacers that came with the 73-74 style brackets to use on the 69-72 cars.

This is how I understand it all after much research and reading. If I am wrong please post the correct info. I also say only 69-72 cars because the early 68 cars had a smaller/ different design but i think the later production cars are probably the same.

Hope this helps,

Sully

I remember finding that spacer when I did my 73 body off. It makes sence now as my car sustained front end damage at one time. I found the correct supports

Hi Sully,
VERY interesting. I remember when the question came up a while ago.
I'd love to see the head mark on the bolts.
Thanks for doing the research and taking the time to post the info and pictures.
Regards,
Alan

Allen, I will try to get pics of the bolt heads tonight for you. What significance would there be?

Hi S,
Some people like to make note of things like that since they don't have a real life. Although different suppliers (headmarks) may have been used for a bolt in that location, I'd like to know one possability.
Thanks!

Alan

Ok Allen,

the markings on the bolt heads are a hash mark at 12 o'clock, 4 and 7 respectively and in the middle are the letters ABC. Hope that helps

SULLy1882 Thanks a ton I needed this information. I wonder if any of the vendors sell those shims. Is the hole in the shims threaded?

hole is not threaded at all, bolt slips up through the shim/ spacer and bolts into stock mount hole. I will double check but I think these bolts are the same size for the ones that bolt the seats to the floor. I have not ever seen any vendor have them for sale. In fact when speaking directly to a few of them they had no clue as to what I was talking about.

Make em.... it's easier.

A one-half inch stack of washers or shims will provide the same fix.
