Default 1968 What's missing? (Round 2)

While hanging my new exhaust I found two bolts on the front of the frame crossmember that the exhaust passes through. Each bolt is to the outside of the exhaust, one on the passenger side and one on the driver side. Kind of looks to me like an electrical connection, or some type of safety wire like is used on the seatbelts. I looked in the AIM but couldn't find anything. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Rick L.

There was a braided copper ground strap that ran from the bolt in the cross member, to the exhaust clamp.

Why does the exhaust need to be grounded?

It's supposed to eliminate static for cars with radios.

Have no idea. When I was doing the resto, I bought a grounding kit for 68's, and they were both included. AIM showed where they went

Hi OS,
I believe that 68-70 cars with a factory option radio had the 2 ground straps at the tailpipe clamps. They also had a single strap from the underbody re-inforcement to the frame located at about the position of the driver's left foot. 70-72 cars didn't use them.
Regards,
Alan
