I noticed after all this that the rear quarter panel is loose behind the rear tire? It looks like it was attached to the rear floor. Is there a way to just apply some adheasive with a calking gun to glue it back up. If so what is the product.
No Sir, I have not done this but I very well may have the same problem as you do and on saturday I can take a pic to show if it's the same problem. I almost think the factory left it that way but not sure, that is if I'm talking about the same thing.
I'm going to watch this thread.
Look into" Evercoat Maxim" universal bonding adhesive. It use's a standard caulking gun and it comes with a mixing tip. Look for it at an Auto body supply store.
Yes, you need SMC glue. A few people make it. It's used to bond the header to the SMC just above the headlights. You cannot buy fiberglass glue unless you vette was made before... 72? Most C3s are SMC not fiberglass. Go with SMC glue to be safe, it sticks to metal, SMC and fiberglass.
Sounds like you are referring to the splash panel to fender joint.
It can be real simple or involved.
Any epoxy is proper.
If it is just a crack of the old joint with no gaps, then a 2 part mix in the injection tubes from Ace hardware is more than enough.
If you have gaps then you need a less viscous mix to fill the gaps at the same time. Still available at a good hardware store.
The hardest part is cleaning and prep, used small wedges or your choice to temporarily spread the parts without damage.
If you need more extensive repairs, then go to a body shop supply and get a panel adhesive, in the right viscosity, any epoxy or urethane (more flexible) is more than adequate.
Well i am told that nothing works from a corvette body shop unless it is SMC compatible. Looks like we are going to have to take it up the *** for $60.00

Shop around a bit. I pay $38 for the large twin tubes of fuzor 100EZ.
A 2 part epoxy or 2 part urethane is a better adhesive than all of the SMC compatable stuff that isn't epoxy and it has the added benefit of being waterproof and more flexible. The smc compatable stuff is usually a modified polester or vinyl ester.
Most people get hung up on this SMC stuff, and it doesn't matter, proper prep and epoxy is the best joint you can get for almost every type of panel joint, whether the old polyester pressed panel, smc, handlaid polyester/epoxy/vinyl ester, other than the newer CFRP and nanoSMC technologies (C6) use a 2 part urethane structural adhesive.
If the little 2 part tubes from a hardware store will do, they are only around 5 bucks.
If our going to pay the big bucks go with Lord Fusor (GM recommends it).
Btw, Marine Tex is a good epoxy, with various fillers depending on purpose.
