Has anyone had a problem with the top windshield chrome strip fitting tightly to the windshield? My trim piece seems too long so that it won't fit flush. I bought a second piece at a swap meet but have the same issue. I know that the "A" pillars and top windshield frame are solid as the windshield was replaced and I was next to the guy checking it with the new windshield out. When he couldn't get the original trim piece to fit on the new windshield (it didn't fit well on the old windshield either) I figured it was the trim piece itself.
Hi B,
There are several reasons the trim may not be tight.
1. The postion and condition of the clips may be limiting how far the trim tabs can slide behind the clips.
2. Are you sure the long thin strip is going UNDER the a-pillar trim?
3. Some replaceplacement windshields are a bit thinner than originals and may contribute to the gap.
4. The spacers used (or not used) and the type of seal used on the windshield affects the distance the glass sits away from the frame and thus affects the trim gap.
Any of this seem to be the cause of what you're seeing?
Regards,
Alan
I had a minor gap in some of the trims at the windshield. I put a some amount of black 3M caulk strip on the inside of the trim, between the joints, you can hardley notice it, it almost looks factory.
Hi OS,
In 70-72 cars, and probably others, there was a silver colored sealer in the joint between the corner pieces and a-pillar trim and the long thin piece and the large header trim.
In this picture there's a little to much sealer but it's in the right place.

Alan
