Another headlight question? My switch hisses...???
Should I hear "hissing" from the headlight switch when the lights are turned on??? The hissing goes away when the switch is pushed in to the OFF position..
If not, I'm thinking vacuum leak....duh. The headlights pop up when I start the car, then go down a few seconds later.
They work fine with manual pull down switch, also work fine when I turn them on and off. Just they "auto pop-up" when I start the car...
Have I finally found the culprit??
Thanks,
Rob

If I remember right when I was fixing my manual pull down switch I crossed the 2 vaccum hoses and I had a hissing sound. Did you replace the switch or have it out? If so maybe the hoses are crossed or could be a leak.

I replaced the switch with a new one, but I am ALMOST positive the hoses are correct, at least according to every diagram I have..
So am I to assume that the headlight switch is NOT supposed to "hiss"??
Hi Rob,
Many of the digrams including the one in the 71 AIM have the 2 hoses reversed at the switch. Willcox has it right!!
The blue striped hose goes to the FRONT (toward the front of the car when installed) nipple on the switch and the BOTTOM nipple on the over-ride valve. Good Luck!

Alan

NOTE...Thanks Alan!! I had used one of the incorrect diagrams when I installed the new switch. The hoses WERE hooked up backwards at the headlight switch. All is good again thanks to some very long needle-nosed pliers and the advice of the best Forum around!!
Alan,
Havent had enough coffee this morning to dive into that driver's side dash, but I THINK I may have them reversed..
I'll check it!
Thanks!
Rob
