Default advice needed for drag setup

hello, i am setting up my street car for the strip. can you give me any advice on anything that i havent covered? 80 vette motor:453 hp @ crank on motor, nos 100 shot trans: th350 3000stall, rearend: 3.70, tires: mt skinnies and 26 11.50 et street. suspension: 360lb composite spring qa1 rear shocks, stock up front. i have taken a couple hundred pounds of weight off the car. it runs well but i am looking for suggestions on what the next semi cost effective mod might be or maybe something i overlooked. i have not run it at the track with this motor but will as soon as they open up? i would hope to run mid 7s in the eighth mile on motor? thanks

How about a line lock to heat up those ET Streets. Also, as the weather warms up, will your cooling system be adequate? Let us know how you do at the track.

If you are going to be running slicks, the tech guys will first look @ the rearend to MAKE SURE that you have driveshaft and halfshaft loops or they will tell you to take the slicks off. Been there, done that. Good luck with the passes!

i have already been through cooling system. 1427, im running the DOT Et Street not a full slick. I dont have the drive or half shaft loops even though i should. Do you think i will still have an issue at test and tune? i dont think they even have a tech inspector for those events in the past. either way you made a good point!!! I thought about the dragvette setup but i havent bought it yet. a line lock might make sense as well. Thanks ps what else guys?

Drive shaft and half shaft loops are a safety issue and relatively dirt cheap........from what I have read here about what happens when something lets go, I plan to use them on a Vette that will never see a dragstrip.

FWIW........not trying to sound "preachy" at all........there's a big financial aspect to it as it is cheaper to fix the car when something breaks if that stuff is on the car. Again, no first hand experience with a Vette, just regurgitating from what I read here numerous times.

I've run my car at 2 different tracks. I have drag radials on it and nobody has asked about safety loops, although I do have them in the half shafts. They do ask about nitrous though. I don't have it so I'm not sure if they apply different standards.

You need to start thinking "SFI" everything. Damper, flex plate, trans sheild. I did a post on an easy to do install of a line lock. shift light & digital rev limiter

Default Just Installed Mine...

Finished last Saturday night. Next meet is this comming Sunday. I bought the M&B (I think that is what it is, or it might be B&G) unit. No major issues but, the push button is plastic crap, had to glue the button on and the base on. The threads of the button are 32tpi while the billet holder is 27tpi. Its only plastic so you can cross-thread the button in with a little effort.

The brake lines were the most fun. 46 year old parts don't like to come apart. A couple flare unions and time to bend up some lines and your set.

What I'm thinking about is the electrical side of things. I've got shift light, rev limiter, line lock, and HEI dizzy on the same ignition hot wire. May be getting to the max.

Bud.
