i have a 75 vette and both doors at the lower rear edge are in about a 1/2 in past the fender, every where else they are fine, open and close with no problem.i purchased the car and noticed the fit problem while washing it.the car is a number matching original owner vehicle and never in an accident.is there an adjustment to correct this if not what could have caused this to happen
Hi m49,
It's a little odd that BOTH doors have the same small problem, but the fit is o.k. elsewhere.
All the ajustment for the doors is at the hinges; either shimmig the hinge where it's mounted to the hinge pllar, moving the hinges on the mounting bolts to the hinge pillar, or moving the door on the bolts from the door to the hinge.
Does the problem happen gradually or does the gap occurs at just the very rear of the door?
Any chance of a picture?
Regards,
Alan
the doors are affected only at the bottom rear, and starts about about 2/3 from the top edge of door.its almost like the rear fender skins are out too far where they meet the rocker panel.im going to try to get a picture of it on here today.im wondering if the car was built this way because i dont understand how both sides could be exactly the same.the birdcage is fine and the doors dont sag when opened and they latch fine.there is no evidence of body damage and i knew the guy i got it from since the car was new and if it was in an accident he would of told me.
I had similar prob. w/ my 76. On 76 there are 3 bolts on each hinge, top & bottom. Basically, I loosened bolts with hyd. jack under door and raised door, tighten, check and do it again until lines were correct. It's a 2 guy job, make sure you use block of wood between door and jack
Good luck
